Comment on Gone too soon: Coping with the loss of a young pet by k..
Tracy, I am sorry about the loss of your beloved cat.
I have never heard of a blood bank: but I would like to research whether my community has one in case I ever need it (we have 2 other cats: our very special cat’s kitties. Is there a name except blood bank for cats? Thanks!

Julia, I am so sorry about your golden. If there is no treatment for the lymphoma, I agree that it is totally unfair. But, you have given your dog everything everything possible and you are only in high school. I know how you feel because i used to tell myself that if other things were wrong at least we had 3 perfect cats. Then we lost one cat.
What it amounts to is that there is no way you could have known your 4 year old dog had cancer. What matters most is that your golden has been loved to the greatest extent possible and had the best possible care from you.

Gena, I am so sorry for the loss of your dog. We had 3 cats until our eldest (but still young) recently died (see my other comments). I don’t know if she ingested anything, but I had literally seen one of my other cats throw up a coated veggie twist tie and have seen a very small short ribbon in his stool. We keep all ribbons, etc. in a room where we don’t let the cats. We do not even have decorations on the Christmas tree. I talked to someone who worked at a vet practice and her dog ingested the top to baby bottles in 2 separate incidents within 1 year requiring surgery both times. This is someone who works at a vet. I think it is simply impossible (unless one lives home with virtually no possessions and never cooks) to keep dogs or cats from never eating anything they shouldn’t. At least in your case there was a diagnosis and surgery and so you did the best you possibly could.
Incidentally I have given my cats small chew sticks and they are totally disinterested.

Thank you, Heather. After going to 3 vets (5 if you include the last 2 emergency vets) we too didn’t have a diagnosis but I do have a suspicion after talking to the front desk person. of 1 vet who was recommended by a friend but a bit far away (and may not have had an apptmt available anyway).
I am very sorry about your kitty. The whole thing we went through — it just seemed like everything went wrong. It sounded as if you took your kitty to quite a few vets.
We are not alone. I have 2 friends — both very caring — one cat died at 5, one at 8.
